SENSITIVITY

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCTS?

I like to make sure that I’m purchasing from a reputable brand. I also pay attention to the ingredients, especially since I have sensitive skin. I find that most ingredients are listed in order of highest to lowest concentration. So knowing your skin type is the most important factor in determining what skincare products are best. Also, I try not to fall into the popularity trap. I don’t always run and purchase what’s considered popular brands and/or items. If I decide to purchase a “popular” item, I will usually do a little research first. I like to find someone who has already been using the product and I prefer it to be someone that has my similar skin type.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 SKINCARE PRODUCTS?

Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum - this is an anti-aging serum. I love how it adds radiance to my skin. It also improves my skin texture and helps to fight wrinkles. Clinique Vitamin C Booster - I use this with my moisturizer. I love how this product helps reduce age spots and helps improve fine lines and wrinkles. Good Molecules Silicone-Free Priming Moisturizer - I love using this moisturizer before I apply makeup. It preps my skin and has an incredible hydrating effect. Something about this particular moisturizer just makes your skin feel radiant.

HOW DO YOU CONTINUE LEARNING ABOUT NEW PRODUCTS OR INGREDIENTS?

I love learning about new products. For skincare, I follow several brands and influencers. Some of my favorites are: Skincare by Loreal, Good Molecules, Ulta, Sephora and Clinique. I also follow Popsugarbeauty, Allure Magazine and Cosmopolitan. I’m obsessed with educating myself on what’s new and what works, so I also invest in master classes as they become available. Product knowledge is an ongoing process as things change so often. Investing in the time to learn and explore has proven to be invaluable for me.

GETTING INTO SKINCARE

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR PEOPLE GETTING INTO SKINCARE?

I would recommend seeking advice from a dermatologist to identify your skin type. Sometimes people with different skin types tend to use the wrong product. So, identifying your skin type can really aid in choosing the right products.  Once you know what you’re dealing with, you can look for products targeted for your skin type and needs. Always check the ingredient list to make sure the product has actives that can do the job and nothing that can make things worse. Reviews can be extremely helpful, lots of people have already tried the products and are happy to share their experience. Don’t be afraid to try samples, go to the cosmetic counter and ask for free samples. Avoid trying several new products at one time. Try one new product every 2-4 weeks. It’s tempting to wanna try everything, but I find that introducing lots of new products at the same time can do more damage than good.
