Q&A WITH EMILY
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO PRACTICE SELF CARE, APART FROM SKINCARE?
I believe it's so important to love yourself and appreciate every part of what makes you, you. As humans, we are our own harshest critics so we all need things to keep us going through the hard times. My top favorite ways to practice self care are to workout and listen to upbeat music, and I am always listening to new podcasts. Alongside those, I enjoy getting outside and breathing in the fresh air to ease my mind. I'm very fond of painting, reading and love to express myself through art. What really puts me in a good mood is grabbing a fresh cup of coffee whenever I’m in need of a "pick me up".
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE STEP OF YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE?
My favorite step in my skincare routine is applying my hydrating products after I’ve exfoliated/cleansed. I enjoy a moisturized face and neck- I'd rather be a bit overhydrated than suffer from dry patches and stiff skin. To achieve this feeling, I apply Drunk Elephant day serum mixed with my Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum and press into my cleansed skin. Next, I apply my Ole Henriksen banana bright eye crème and dab into my under eyes using my ring fingers. I then take my Vitamin C moisturizer or Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide moisturizer and apply to my entire face and neck- sometimes down onto my chest as this area is prone to aging quickly. To finish off my routine, I use my Good Molecules Squalane Oil or Ultra-Hydrating Facial Oil and dab into my face... hello hydration!
DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE SKINCARE INGREDIENTS?
My favorite skincare ingredients vary because they all have their own purpose in helping my skin glow. I incorporate hyaluronic acid infused serums, vitamin C, and retinol (which is a must for my night time routine), antioxidants, and lastly- fatty acids. I love to use a cleanser with vitamin C in the morning to wake up my face and to brighten, tighten and firm my skin. Hyaluronic acid is important for me because it replenishes the lost moisture in my face. Fatty acids help the aging process slow down (we all love that) so I use Embryolisse to help with that. Retinol is crucial for my routine to help fine lines and my dark spots etc. I’m a sucker for a hydrating eye cream.
HOW DO YOU CONTINUE LEARNING ABOUT NEW PRODUCTS OR INGREDIENTS?
I learn about skincare products and ingredients by researching through the web (bloggers, Cosmo, google, YouTube). I absolutely love reading, so I take time to teach myself through books and articles. Allure is great, Cosmo is a favorite! Still on the hunt for my favorite doctor with skincare advice.
SKINCARE MUST HAVES
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 SKINCARE PRODUCTS?
It’s so hard to pick top 3 skincare products but if I have to choose at the moment I'll go with these- Dermalogica Daily Exfoliant, Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Crème, Embryolisse Cream, Good Molecules Squalane Oil... well that's four but I'll elaborate why. Daily Exfoliant is such a light everyday exfoliant and works for every skin type- which is hard to find. I love the way it activates with water and really leaves my skin feeling smooth and bright. I leave it in my shower for an early morning cleanse and instantly feel woken up. Banana Bright Eye Crème is an everyday product for me- it brightens and hydrates my dark circles and bags. I love Embryolisse Cream for my clients, since it adds tons of moisture without being oily- it's the perfect primer + moisturizer for every skin type. Lastly, Good Molecules Squalane Oil softens my face and seals in moisture and brightens my complexion which is crucial for my skincare needs.
EMILY'S PICKS
Niacinamide Brightening Toner
"I love using the Niacinamide Brightening Toner after cleansing to really get all that extra makeup and dirt. This toner brightens and tightens my face but also helps it feel awake!"
Discoloration Correcting Serum
"I absolutely love using this serum to help dark spots / discoloration on my face. I apply 2-3 drops and press gently all around my face and let it soak in before the next step. It has a nice, dewy glow to it!"
Squalane Oil
"This is the first squalane oil I have ever used and if you haven’t yet- I highly recommend adding a squalane oil to your routine! It’s extremely beneficial as the antioxidants in it helps fight skin damage and combat aging skin! HELLO extra hydration!"
Pure Cold-Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil
"Since rosehip oil is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids it’s the perfect oil for helping fine lines, wrinkles and even scars! I have terrible crows feet from sun damage over the years (beach bum status) so adding this to my routine has truly helped reduce my fine lines and forehead railroad tracks.... I mean...wrinkles... :)"
Ultra-Hydrating Facial Oil
"I love this facial oil for many reasons! It’s my favorite last step to really lock in all the other products and help them soak into my face. A little goes a very long way- so don’t over oil your face (I learned the hard way!) this product definitely seals my face/ other products in to help soften my skin and prevent water loss."
